International success in support work

I moved to England from Zimbabwe in 2001 and began working as a Support Worker.

I really enjoy working with people with mental health problems, understanding how they think and feel, and being able to communicate with them. I decided to take the Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care through my employer to learn more about Care in a professional capacity. I enjoyed everything about the course! The tutors were brilliant. They have always got time for you and give you 100% of their time.

The International Team were also brilliant, mentoring me and counselling me if I ever needed any extra support. After completing the course, I jumped straight to the final year of a BsC Honours in Health at the University of Wolverhampton. It was fantastic being able to go straight to the final year! The foundation course helped to broaden my mind, both in the way I think and the way I care.

I can now teach others what I have learned. I’m now very happy in my career and one day I would love to teach. I have already encouraged 4 of my friends to study this course. Walsall College is a brilliant place, with helpful staff who really care.
