Seventeen-year-old Alicia Williamson enrolled on the Animal Management course at The Manchester College because she wanted to be a veterinary nurse.
Alicia said: “My time at The Manchester College has been really good, getting to know how to interact with animals – the animals were definitely one of the best things about the course! As well as the support you get from the teachers. In fact, I’ve already recommended the course and college to my cousin who wants to do the same thing as me.”
As part of the course, Alicia did a work placement with Discount Pets (TD Pets Ltd) in Stockport. She enjoyed her work placement and said it helped her to increase her knowledge on different diets and foods for small animals. She impressed the company with her attitude and skills and was offered a permanent position when the placement ended.
TD Pets Director Tim Morley said: “Alicia came to do her work experience on a Saturday and was very keen to get stuck in and learn about the business. Alicia is polite, calm and not afraid to use her initiative. At the end of her work experience she had pretty much cemented her role on the busiest day of the week and was offered this position permanently. Alicia has a lot of key qualities for working in the Pet Care Industry, mainly great people skills and a passion for working with animals particular small animal care.”
Alicia achieved a MMM on her Level 3 Animal Management course and plans to enrol at university to realise her dream of becoming a veterinary nurse.
